Who Uses Mold Maker

The same two-part mold geometry serves very different workflows. Here is how each group uses it, and which mode fits. New to the tool? Start with how it works.

Makers and hobbyists

Reproduce a printed part in a material you cannot print: casting resin, wax, plaster, soap, or silicone. Keycaps, figurines, coasters, knobs, and replacement parts all mold well.

  • Custom Size mode for anything larger than a desktop injection cavity
  • Print the halves overnight, cast the next morning
  • Flexible silicone route for detailed miniatures and shallow undercuts

Educators and students

Teach parting planes, draft angles, and undercuts with immediate visual feedback instead of a whiteboard. Students see why a part sticks before they waste filament finding out.

  • Class codes let a teacher enroll up to 50 students under one plan
  • The demoldability heatmap makes abstract draft rules concrete
  • Runs in a browser on school hardware, no CAD licenses required

INJEKTO 3 owners

Generate molds that drop straight into the standard mold backer, with sprue and vent geometry matched to the machine and part volume capped at the shot limit.

  • Fixed 75.6 x 86 x 25.88 mm half-mold geometry
  • Automatic scale-to-fit within 69 x 80 x 48 mm and 45 mL
  • Order the mold manufactured in PPA-CF, resin, or aluminum

Product designers and engineers

Check moldability before committing to tooling. Find undercuts, evaluate parting plane options, and hand a STEP solid to a machine shop without rebuilding the geometry.

  • Scored parting plane candidates rather than a single guess
  • STEP export as a real B-rep solid, not a triangulated shell
  • Fast iteration on orientation and plane choice before spending on tooling

Small-batch producers

Run short production without an injection molding vendor. Cast tens of parts from a silicone mold poured off a printed master, or hundreds from a manufactured mold.

  • Alignment pins keep the seam tight across repeated cycles
  • Consistent sprue and vent placement across a mold family
  • Move up from printed to machined molds using the same geometry

Prop, cosplay, and art fabrication

Duplicate a sculpted or scanned piece in a castable material, at any scale, with the seam placed where it will be hidden or sanded.

  • Manual parting plane override for cosmetic seam control
  • No fixed size ceiling in Custom Size mode
  • Works from sculpting-app OBJ exports as well as CAD STLs
